Dr. Kapendra Shekhar Amatya - Breast Cancer Specialist
Dr. Kapendra Shekhar Amatya is a leading breast cancer surgeon in Nepal, renowned for his expertise in both breast and gastrointestinal surgery. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Amatya has dedicated his professional life to advancing cancer treatment and surgical techniques in Nepal. Dr. Amatya began his medical education at Beijing Medical University, China, where he earned his MBBS degree in 1999 on a full scholarship. Following this, he worked as a Medical Officer in the Department of Surgery at Bir Hospital and B.P. Koirala Memorial Hospital, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in general surgery.In 2004, Dr. Amatya completed his MS in General Surgery, again from Beijing Medical University, China, under a full scholarship. This advanced training equipped him with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the field of surgical oncology.
Dr. Amatya’s professional journey includes significant roles in several prestigious institutions. He served as a Full-time Registrar in the Department of Surgical Oncology at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan. His dedication to cancer treatment started as a part-time and full-time experience as a surgical oncologist at the National Cancer Hospital and Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. Since March 2015, Dr. Amatya has been the Consultant Surgical Oncologist and Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center. In this role, he has been instrumental in leading the department, implementing innovative surgical techniques, and collaborating with oncology teams to improve patient outcomes. Additionally, Dr. Amatya serves as a member of the board of directors, contributing his expertise to guide the hospital’s strategic direction and governance.
Dr. Kapendra Shekhar Amatya is not only recognized for his surgical skills but also for his commitment to patient care. His approach emphasizes the importance of preserving quality of life through less invasive procedures and advanced reconstructive techniques. He has received training in Oncoplastic Breast Cancer Surgery in Thailand and Laproscopic Gastric Cancer Surgery and in South Korea. He has been doing surgeries like D2 Gastrectomy in Stomach Cancer, Extended Colectomies in Colon Cancer, TME in Rectum Cancer and Whipple’s Surgeries in Pancreas and Duodenum Cancer. He has vast experience in treating more than 3050 cases of Breast Cancer, 200 cases of Stomach Cancer, 1500 cases of Colon & Rectal Cancer and 700 cases of Urinary Bladder Cancers and Kidney Cancers and many other cancer surgeries.
